Telephone/Online Bidding
If you are unable to come to the auction it may be possible to bid on the telephone for higher value lots. Please note that this service is restricted to lots with an estimate of €500 or more only, for cost and administrative reasons.
The number of lines is limited so we would urge serious telephone bidding only and ask that you be prepared to bid over the top estimate. It would be advisable to leave a maximum covering bid in case we are not able to contact you by telephone. All lines must be booked and confirmed in writing before the day of the auction and preferably some time in advance.
Telephone bidding involves many variables and whilst we take every care to ensure the smooth running of this service, we cannot be held liable if your bids are missed for any reason.
Online bidding is available via out website
We now offer live bidding on our website, simply create an account and then visit our upcoming auctions to register and bid on a sale.
You will need to register a valid debit or credit card before you will be can bid. On the day of the sale you will be able to view a live feed of the rostrum to join the sale remotely and bid in real time. You can also leave bids in advance by leaving an by leaving an Autobid. Our system will automatically bid on your behalf up to the amount you specify during the live sale. Your bids will appear as live internet bids to the Auctioneer, and the Auctioneer will not be aware of your maximum bid at any time.

Absentee Bidding – Absentee bids must be received no later than 5pm the day prior to the sale. Any bids received after this deadline cannot be guaranteed.

Conditions of Sale
- The highest bidder to be the buyer, and if any dispute arises between two or more bidders, the lot in dispute shall immediately be put up again and resold.
- In the case of lots upon which there is a reserve, the Auctioneer shall have the right to bid on behalf of the Seller.
- The Purchasers to give their names and places of abode.
- The lots to be taken away and paid for, whether genuine and authentic or not, with all faults and errors of description at the buyers expense and risk, within the specified time after the end of the sale; the Auctioneers not being responsible for the correct description, genuineness or authenticity of or any default or defect in any lot, and making no warranty whatever. If within 30 days after the Sale of any item, the Auctioneer receives a notice in writing from the Buyer by Registered Post that such an item is a deliberate forgery, together with the necessary evidence to satisfy the Auctioneers of such an allegation, then the sale of that item will be rescinded, and the net purchase monies refunded (less any outlays incurred by the Auctioneers) to the purchaser. In the event of any dispute arising in relation to the foregoing, the matter shall be refereed to an Independent Arbitrator to be agreed between the parties.
- To prevent inaccuracy in the delivery and inconvenience in the settlement of the purchase, no lot can on any account be removed during the time of sale, and the remainder of any purchase money due, must absolutely be paid on delivery.
- Upon failure of complying with above conditions, any money deposited in part payment shall be forfeited. All lots uncleared within the time of aforesaid shall be resold by public or private sale, and the deficiency (if any) attending such resale, shall be made good by the defaulter at this sale.
- N.B.: The Payment by cash or guaranteed cheques. All cheques or drafts to be made payable to “Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers.” Third Party Cheques or Drafts will not be accepted as payment for lots purchased.
- Purchasers to pay 20 – 25% auction Fees (VAT inclusive) depending on type of sale.
- First-time Buyers require Bank References. Bids are accepted in Euro Only.
- We accept payment by Debit Cards (Laser / Visa Debit Card) etc., and Credit Cards (Mastercard / Visa Payments are subject to 3% surcharge).

Vendors Conditions
Instructions
All goods delivered to Fonsie Mealy’s will be deemed to be delivered for sale by auction unless otherwise stated and will be catalogued and sold at the auctioneer’s discretion, subject to all sale conditions below.
By delivering goods to Fonsie Mealy’s for inclusion at Auction, vendors acknowledge acceptance of these conditions and agreement to be bound by them and that he has good and unencumbered title to the goods. Fonsie Mealy’s, have sole discretion to determine the description of any lot in their catalogue, and the date and location of sale for any such lot.
Commision and Charges
The standard rate of commission that the vendor shall pay Fonsie Mealy’s varies depending on the type of sale from 15% to 25%. The commission is calculated on the hammer price and may be subject to change. This will cover Sale Commission, Advertising, Cataloguing, Printing and Presentation for all catalogue sales. Please see our conditions of sale for more information.
Photography
Catalogue photography may incur an additional charge. Please contact our office to discuss.
Insurance
The Vendor shall pay Fonsie Mealy’s a contribution of 1% including V.A.T. of the hammer price towards the Insurance Cover of lots sold, unless otherwise instructed by the Vendor. Lots not covered so by the Auctioneers Insurance shall at all times be held by Fonsie Mealy’s at the sole risk and responsibility of the Vendor, pending their sale.
Collection
Fonsie Mealy’s can arrange for the collection and delivery of goods from the vendor to our Auction Rooms, or any other auction venue, and reserve the right to charge the vendor for this service, which is arranged by agreement.
Reserves
All lots are put up for sale without Reserve, unless written instructions are received by the auctioneer prior to the commencement of the sale. Fonsie Mealy’s do not accept reserves on any lot under €200 in value. Fonsie Mealy’s may, at their discretion, sell at a ‘hammer price’ below the reserve but in any such case the sale proceeds to which the vendor is entitled, shall be the same as they would have been had the sale been at the reserve. Lots ‘bought in’ under an agreed reserve price, are subject to a charge of 10% including V.A.T. on the fixed reserve.
Charges for Withdrawn Lots
Once catalogued, lots withdrawn from the sale before proofing / publication of Catalogue, will be subject to commission payable at 5% including V.A.T. of the Auctioneer’s middle estimate of the lot withdrawn, and any expenses incurred by the Auctioneer in relation to that lot. If Lots are withdrawn after proofing or publication of Catalogue, they will be subject to a commission of 10% including V.A.T. of the Auctioneer’s middle estimate of the lot withdrawn, and any expenses incurred by the Auctioneer in relation to that lot. All commissions and expenses hereunder must be paid for before the withdrawn lot or lots may be removed.
Unsold Lots
Where any lot or lots fail to sell at auction, the Auctioneer shall notify the vendor accordingly and (in the absence of an agreement between the vendor and the Auctioneer to the contrary) such Lots may, at the absolute discretion of the Auctioneer, be re-entered in the next suitable auction unless instructions are received to the contrary.
Otherwise such Lots must be collected at the vendor’s expense within a period of 30 days of such notification from the Auctioneer. Fonsie Mealy’s reserve the right to adjust or reduce the reserve and estimated price of any previously unsold lot in order to facilitate its sale at a subsequent auction.
Payment of Proceeds of Sale
The Auctioneer shall remit the Proceeds of Sale to the vendor not later than 30 working days after the date of the auction, provided the Auctioneer has received payment. If by that date however the Auctioneer has not received the total amount due from the purchaser, then the Auctioneer shall remit the Proceeds of Sale within 7 working days after the date on which the total amount due is received from the purchaser.
If credit terms have been agreed between the Auctioneer and the purchaser the Auctioneer shall remit to the vendor the Proceeds of Sale not later than 30 working days after the date of the auction. In the event of the vendor receiving full payment, before or after the Auctioneer receive same, then full title to the lots shall pass to the Auctioneer.
Unsold Lots and Lots Failing To Reach The Reserve Price
Lots entered for auction that fail to reach the agreed reserve may be re-offered for sale at a reserve not exceeding 50% of the initially agreed reserve. Otherwise, the item must be collected within 10 working days following the sale, and will incur a storage charge of €2 per day thereafter.
