Lear (Edward, 1812-1888), artist. A sheet of lined writing paper, approx. 8" x 5", bearing a watercolour pictogram or pictorial message, with a Lear figure removing his hat, leaves, a green pea, a flowering branch, and a coastal scene with fish, a ship etc., apparently relating to ‘Mr. Marshall, Mrs. Marshall, Mr. V. Marshall & Mr. Churnside’ (the first three being 19th-century Yorkshire relatives of the vendor). With some related correspondence seeking to decipher the message, some published material about a Lear exhibition, etc. An intriguing collection, offered w.a.f. (1)
