Letter from a Parish Priest, 1819

Co. Tipperary: An A.L. signed and dated 24 January 1819 from T. More, P.P., Rapla (Nenagh, Co. Tipperary) to Matthew Franks of York St., Dublin.

Requests in obsequious terms and at length that Franks intercede with "her Ladyship" to obtain for him a lease of part of Rapla, as she had promised, as the former agent Mr.Cullen has been discontinued and the new agent does not know him. He stresses the terrible condition of the land - the lower part waterlogged, the upper part stripped bare and covered in beggars' cabins - and his trouble and expense in reclaiming it. The previous tenant McCan had neglected it and he had got him dismissed. A very comprehensive 3pp letter. As a m/ss, w.a.f. (1)
