Daniel O'Connell's Swagger Stick
[O'Connell (Daniel)] A unique personal artefact belonging to the Liberator, a shaped bone handled and ebonised Swagger Stick, the handle with circular inset inscribed 'O'Connell, M.P.' (Daniel O'Connell, member of Parliament), and part of the ebonised stick (damaged with loss), it is recorded that the stick broke during his fiery speech in Ballinkillen in Co. Carlow in 1841, during elections. O'Connell was stationed in Borris during this time, and the stick was given as a memento to the Hogan Family, as an Artefact, w.a.f. (1)
