An important late 17th Century silver Tankard, hallmarked Isaac Dighton, London, date c. 1688/89, the top with inscription "Allye Course in ye Ryne in Thomond ye 14th of May. This Plate was won by ye 3rd horse Anno Domi - 1701," the main body of reeded form with central medallion depicting etched design of man on horseback, with conforming reeded scroll handle, approx. 7 ounces, approx. 10cms (4") high. (1)

Provenance: The Westropp Family, Ballysteen House, Ballysteen, Co. Limerick.

Note: The word "Ryne" is suggested that it refers to a townland adjacent to Quin Village, Co. Clare (which relates to Thomond). The Townland was thought to be owned by Ryan.
