Tree Planting at Calverstown, Co. Kildare
Manuscripts: Indenture on vellum dated 10 June 1782 whereby Richard Levinge of Calverstown leases to George Long, woolcomer [sic] 14 acres for the lives of said George Long, Richard son of Thomas Bently of Kilcullinbridge, postmaster, and Henry son of James Cooper of Ballymany, groom, at a rent of £19.1.0. MS map by Charles Callaghan drawn on deed.
· Large indenture on vellum dated 16 April 1814 whereby Robert Borrowes of Dublin esq. leases to Patrick Doyle the Deerpark of Calverstown, containing 85 acres (sketch map annexed), to hold for the life of John Keightley of Calverstown, Patrick Doyle’s nephew, now aged 16, or for 31 years. Within the first five years, tenant is to plant 20,000 “good and healthy two-years-old trees of oak, ash, elm, fir, larch or sycamore”, 4,000 per year, and also young trees for fencing. Further detailed provisions are given. He is also to build “a good and substantial dwelling house made of lime and sand”, 18 ft high, 35 ft long, and 16 ft wide, “roofed with foreign timber” and slated. As manuscripts, w.a.f. (2)
