Narratives of two Voyages by a Cork Yachtsman
[Corinthian] Typescripts of two Log-Books of the yacht 'Gull 'kept by her captain-owner, the solicitor Henry P.F. Donegan.
· A voyage from Crosshaven to Cornwall and down the west coast of France in July 1923, replete with narrative detail, liberally supplied with photographs and a hand-drawn map; 27ff.
· A race from Ryde (Isle of Wight) round the Fastnet and back to Plymouth in August 1925. The competitors had to contend not only with each other but with the vagaries of the elements, as witness this entry for 21 August: “Relieved of my watch on deck owing to a scald (which raised a nasty blister on my left instep) incurred when making tea in the fo’c’stle. I am resuming this narrative under exceptional difficulty. The cabin swing table is doing its level best to assassinate me. I have been struck in the chest and chin, while the weighty box beneath is making frantic efforts to amputate one or both of my legs,”
With photographs of the Voyages, some m/ss notes, as a lot. (2)
