The pathetic tale of how Miss L'Estrange and her two very young sisters were orphaned when their mother and father (an Irish officer in the British garrison on Heligoland during the Napoleonic War), died within weeks of each other, and how with the help of regimental friends, the three children managed the hazardous journey to Dublin, where they met their grandmother and aunts, for the first time.
