Roosevelt (Theodore), President of the United States
A very good collection including two ALs. to T.P. Gill, a card fro the White House inscribed in his hand, copies of two letters from Gill to Roosevelt and other items as follows:
a. A typescript signed letter on White House headed paper from Roosevelt to Gill, Sept. 1903, thanking him for sending the ‘Cucullain Saga.’ ‘I had ordered it myself and have now cancelled the order and have ordered Douglas Hyde’s “A Literary History of Ireland;” and discussing arrangements to meet in Washington. With a very good signature. Presumably the book was Lady Gregory’s “Cuchulain of Muirthemne,” 1902.
b. A Presidential Visiting Card inscribed in Roosevelt’s hand. ‘With hearty thanks for your congratulations,,’ with related envelope addressed to T.P. Gill, Department of Agriculture, Dublin.
c. A typed signed letter from Roosevelt (in London) to Gill, 28 May 1910, confirming arrangements for a meeting, ‘It is as you know, the most difficult thing in the world for me to get any time for myself. But come in at 5.30 on Thursday next .. and I will do my best.’ With a very good signature.
e. Banquet programme for Eight Annual Banquet of New York Society of the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, April, 29, 1904.
f. Typescript carbon copies of two letters to Roosevelt, unsigned but evidently from T.P. Gill, concerning the death of Gen. (Wm.) Butler, 1910.
* An important collection of Presidential documents and memorabilia. Apparently there was a family relationship between Gill and Roosevelt. As an Archive, w.a.f. (1)
