17th Century Irish Proclamation

Lords of the Privy Council:
We, Peers of this Realm, Assembled with some of the Lords of the Privy Council, Do hereby Require all Irish Officers and Soldiers to Repair forthwith to the respective Bodies to which they do, or did lately belong; …. And We do Require and Command All Justices of the Peace, Constables, and other Officers whom it may concern, That they apprehend, and seize all such Soldiers as shall not repair to their respective Bodies; and that they be dealt with as Vegabonds. Given at the Council Chambers in Whitehal, this 14th Day of December, 1688. * One of King James’s last acts before his deposition by William of Orange was to bring over a force of soldiers from Ireland in the autumn of 1688. The present declaration, intended to neutralise that force, is dated three days after James secretly left London on his way to take refuge in France. V. good & extremely scarce.
