The Sketch Books of Sir Charles Langham 1894 – 1972
Langham (Sir John) A unique collection of approx. 300 original sketches and drawings contained in 5 original Albums, each titled, “Fungi”; “Ferns Sedges;” “Fermanagh, Ireland;” & “England, Ireland,” vols. I & II, all sketches identified, and mostly signed with initials, the location and date is also mostly given, the sizes vary from small, approx. 10cms x 13cms (4″ x 5″) to 27cms x 23cms (10 1/2″ x 9″), some loose in folder, but all in pristine fresh condition. As drawing, w.a.f.
* Sir John Langham was born in Northern Ireland. a well educated gentleman who travelled extensively. He became a land agent and managed some v. large estates in Ireland, including Coollattin, Shillelagh, for the Earl of Wicklow. His unique style, his accurate knowledge of botany, and his love of the countryside are all beautifully captured in this unique collection of drawings.
Provenance: Purchased from the Artist Family some years ago by the present owner.
