Early Scrapbook: from Northern Ireland Source, a very interesting bound compilation of extracts mainly from newspapers, early to mid 19th Century, in a small quarto album titled ‘Omnifarious Olio. A Thing of Shades and Patches.’ It includes much very interesting material: General Meeting of the Hibernian Society, Remarkable Occurances of 1805, melancholy events in Killycurry about two miles from Ahogiolo, Ode to the Memory of Burns, Proclamation of the Brigands called Patriots of 1916, Dreadful Volcanic Eruption i the East Indies (Java), 1815, Epitaph for the late Rt. Wife of Sir Thomas Deane of Cork, Architect
Manuscript: Deane (Lady Eliza). Her manuscript Journal for 1832, most daily entries from 1st January to 19 Nov., in octavo volume with blank pages, bound in full diced calf gilt borders, tooled gilt spine, worn at joints but holding firmly. An interesting journal, mostly concerning Lady Deane’s daily activities, about her family, etc. With an explanatory page at front written by a descendant, explaining the names and relationships (Sir Thomas also had an earlier marriage; his son was Sir Thomas Newenham Deane). Some pages from 8th March are in a different hand, possible that of Sir Thomas Deane; they are mainly concerned with the building of their new house, apparently with stones etc., from an old castle. On Saturday 17th March Lady Deane notes that Ássizes bean this day. O’Conell is to make his entry tomorrow. I would not pollute my Sabbath Day’s Journal by naming him.’ A most interesting document, in very good condition. As a m/ss., w.a.f. (1)
