Michael Collins Last Journey Michael Collins Photograph. A very fine original photograph showing Collins getting into his car outside the Eldon Hotel, Skibbereen, on the day of his death, 22 Aug. 1922. He is the tall figure getting into the car on the right; Emmet Dalton is also getting into the car (further to the left)., approx. 16 x 22cm, framed. Very good. Ex. Scarce.
* Collins and his party visited the Skibbereen Hotel to meet the proprietors, Mr. & Mrs. Teddy Quinn. Mr. Quinn’s mother lived in Airfield Rd., Dublin, and had often given Collins a safe refuge during the War of Independence. After leaving Skibbereen, Collins went onto Bandon, where he took tea at the Munster Arms Hotel, and from there to Beal na Blath on his way back to Cork. An excellent photograph showing the enthusiasm with which Cork people turned out to greet Collins, and one of the last before his untimely death. (1)
