SOLD Hammer price: €220, Estimate: €200-300

[Gogarty (Oliver St. John)] A typescript carbon copy of an Order of Subpoena from the High Court of Justice, Saorstat Eireann, 1938, to Herbert Heber Pembrey, trading as Greene & Co., 16 Clare Street, Dublin, to appear in the action between Henry Morris Sinclair (Plaintiff, a Jewish Art dealer in Dublin) and Oliver St. John Gogarty and Rich and Cowen Ltd. (defendant), not signed.
* Sinclair sued Gogarty over a reference in his reminiscences ‘As I was going Down Sackville Street.’ Gogarty lost the action over his anti-semetic remark, and was ordered to pay £900. He moved to London & America thereafter. it is not clear why Mr. Pembrey was called (perhaps to prove publication of the book). Samuel Beckett, a nephew, was called as a witness on that occasion.
H.H. Pembrey to the present owner. (1)
