Rare Irish Mezzotint: An attractive mezzotint engraving showing Walter Blake Kirwin, Dean of Killala, preaching to a fashionable audience, with young children around a pulpit, engraved by William Ward after the original by Hugh Hamilton, approx. 61cms x 69cms (24″ x 26 3/4″), published by 1st January, 1806 by Wm. Allen, Dublin. Dedicated to his Excellency, Philip Earl of Hardwicke, Ld. Lieutenant. Inscribed on an added slip at base, ‘The Governors and Guardians of the Female Orphan House, Dublin, intended by this print to express to the Revd. Walter Blake Kirwan … their most grateful sense… . What was meant to be mark of sincere respect to the living, they now publish as a just tribute to the Memory of the Dead.’ As a print, framed, w.a.f.
* Dean Kirwin (1754 – 1805) from Galway was firstly a Catholic clergyman and a professor at Louvain. He transferred to the Church of Ireland, 1787, but retained the respect of both denominations. A powerful speaker, he raised large sums for charity. (1)More details › -

* John Armour Haydn, Architectural and landscape painter was the only son of the Ven. J.A. Haydn, Rector of Nantenan, near Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, and sometime Archdeacon of Limerick. He was first employed in Guinness in Dublin and later Limerick. He exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1933 – 34. He died in 1957, and is buried in the grounds of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick. (1)More details › -

Hunt & others, consisting of 18 lg. full page (approx. 32cms x 41cms), 25, three-quarter page (25cms x 36cms), 60 half page (22cms x 29cms approx); & 72 smaller examples, all attractively hand coloured, and each mounted lightly, edges only, several of Irish interest, and a few of French interest.
