Byrne (Patrick), journalist with Evening Herald. A folder containing letters and documents sent to Mr. Byrne, many of theatrical interest, including A.L.s. from Sean O’Casey, 8.2.1951, 2pp, on his headed paper, telling how Seamus Hughes once refused to set music to a song of O’Casey’s, because O’Casey was then a follower of Jim (Larkin), while Hughes, and the Transport Unions was ‘under the paternal, eternal care of Bill O’Brien’ – ‘all over now, & I sincerely hope S. OhAodha is well.’ Other items include some ink sketches of Byrne by Thomas Ryan (signed), and three TLS from Cyril Cusack, 1942 – 50, the first describing how he almost died in wartime bombing in London, the second explaining how the Censor prevented him sending printed matter (an autographed theatre programme) to Eire. There are also a few notes from Ethel Mannin two, TLS on Dail paper from Liam Cosgrave, an autograph note from Gemma Cruven, a photograph of the cast of ‘The Quiet Man’ including John Wayne, an album with cuttings on ‘Witchcraft in Ireland,’ etc. As a collection, w.a.f.
