Each map with attractive cartouches, and other decorations and all in remarkably good condition. Waterford: Sketch Book: An interesting Anglo-Irish Sketchbook containing a variety of mainly humorous sketches of the pursuits of the gentry, possibly by Pauline Baron, whose permit to copy paintings at Pisa is laid in at front, with a letter to ‘Dear Pauline’ from F. Villiers-Stuart mentioning Frances De La Poer and others. The drawings, in a straightforward attractive style, include vignette drawings of faces at the Jubilee Review, Aldershot 1887, Waterford tennis tournament 1893, Pic Nic to Bignor, September 1890, Bee hunting at Woodlands 1891, and similar subjects, an evocative record of bygone days and customs. In a much worn quarto album, pages loose, upper cover almost separated, would benefit by some loving care. Currie (John) Irish Artist: A small collection of Drawings and Sketches, ink and pencil, mainly humorous, early 20th century, some on letters to a Mr. Fletcher, whose portrait he was evidently painting at a studio in Dublin, another on an Ostend restaurant menu, about 10 pp, with a photograph showing two men (one possibly the painter).Currie is not listed in Snoddy’s Dictionary of Irish Artists (20th Century) or in Horne’s Dictionary of 20th Century British Artists. He was clearly a capable draughtsman. (1)
