HISTORY – Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers
Our firm, Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers, was originally founded in 1934 by Fonsie’s late Father, George Mealy. From the beginning the company ran successful Antique and Fine Art Auctions at their premises in Castlecomer, Kilkenny and throughout Ireland. In the late 1970’s Fonsie joined the firm and in addition to the established Antiques and Fine Art business, he established a Rare Book Department. He has become well known as an expert valuer and auctioneer of rare books, manuscripts, fine art, antiques and paintings.
We are one of Ireland’s leading auction houses and have become recognised both nationally and internationally as the premier specialists in Irish historical artefacts, rare books, fine art, paintings, furniture, silver, sporting memorabilia, manuscripts and maps.
Fonsie’s son, George Fonsie, works with him now in the firm since he joined in 2004, and the business continues to thrive under the directorship of both Father and Son. With over 50 years’ combined experience, Fonsie and George Fonsie are well placed to offer a truly professional and personal service.
Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers will continue to be located in the existing premises at the Old Cinema, Chatsworth Street, Castlecomer, Kilkenny. We hold auctions at our premises on Chatsworth Street and also in Dublin and regionally at country house locations throughout Ireland. We offer clients the facility of bidding online from anywhere in the world through www.thesaleroom.com and also by telephone and absentee bidding.
“We pride ourselves on offering not only a professional service but also a service with a personal touch”. – Fonsie Mealy Director
